GXO Expands Agility Robotics Digit Humanoid to More US Sites

See where Digit deploys next, which model ships first, and what Georgia tote data means for operators.

GXO Logistics will expand Agility Robotics Digit humanoids to sites in Statesville, North Carolina and Lebanon, Tennessee. Digit is Agility's bipedal warehouse robot built for repetitive material handling. The new units will support e-commerce fulfillment by moving totes and feeding conveyors. GXO announced the plan on October 26, 2026, according to the GXO announcement.

What will Digit do at the new sites?

Digit will handle highly repetitive material-handling work inside fulfillment operations. The focus is consistent tote flow rather than varied or dexterous picking.

Planned work includes: That role places Digit alongside conveyors and existing automation. It fills repeat carries that pace order flow.

  • moving totes between stations
  • feeding conveyors to keep orders moving
  • supporting high-volume e-commerce fulfillment

Which robot version arrives first?

Deployments are scheduled to begin in early 2027 using Digit 4 robots. The sites will then migrate to Digit 5 when commercially available, according to DC Velocity in the DC Velocity report.

The phased approach lets GXO start with current hardware. It also preserves a path to the newer generation without restarting the deployment.

Why expand from Georgia?

The expansion follows live production at Flowery Branch, Georgia. There, Digit has moved more than 100,000 totes alongside existing automation.

Reporting on that operation cites about 98% on-task accuracy and more than 65,000 real-world hours across Agility commercial programs, according to Tech Times in the Tech Times report. The result points to reliable repeat handling in a working warehouse.

How is the rollout structured?

The project builds on a June 2024 multi-year Robots-as-a-Service agreement. Under that model, GXO deploys Digit robots plus Agility Arc cloud fleet-management software.

Arc manages the robot fleet in operation. The arrangement was described as industry-first for humanoid deployment. Near-term impact remains limited to planning because the new sites have not started and Digit 5 awaits commercial availability in 2027, according to Origin of Bots in the Origin of Bots report.
